Sweet serenades. Mandolins are in a league of their own when it comes to creating beautiful folk and country tunes. Part of the lute family, they usually have eight strings tuned an octave apart in pairs, creating a magical, ethereal tone. There are two main types of mandolin: A-Style, commonly used in folk and Dalmatian music, and F-Style, which are more typical of bluegrass music.
